2022 Governor-elect Election Biographical Sketches and Candidate Statements - Chile

The ballots for the current Governor-elect election have been mailed. The voting membership (MACPs, FACPs, Members, and Resident/Fellow Members with an elect date of 9/1/2020 or earlier) can vote online or mail-in ballot.

You will need your mailed ballot or election email containing your ACP Member Number and Election Passcode in order to vote. Below are the bios and statements of the candidates that are running in this election. Online voting begins on September 30, 2022 and will end on November 4, 2022 at 11:59 p.m. Eastern. Mario Andrés Calvo Arellano, MD, FACP 

Candidate Statement: ACP represents the highest possible level of accomplishment of our role as caregivers of our patients, meaning an ethical, social, and scientific call. It has strengthened an important group of members of ACP in Santiago that has accomplished an incredible labor improving and motivating the development of medicine throughout the country. Therefore, I believe current priorities are related to increase the number of participants in Committee of Regions, organizing groups in North and South of the country, building nets among regions, improving the leadership of members in regions, and incorporating more regional members in committees of Chilean’s Chapter. I have previous expertise in organization of scientific societies as past-president of Infectious Diseases Society of Chile and ex-member of directory of Southern-Committee of Chilean’s Intensive Medicine Society. It can contribute to the Board of Governors with a better understanding of the practice and medical education developed far from bigger health centers.

Candidate Statement: The ACP is an institution that allows us to grow in our career along with our professors and generate networks in a long and centralized country. I would like to strengthen our group of resident/fellows and Early Career Physicians who have been away due to burnout after the COVID-19 pandemic; especially those working in remote and small cities, improving the diversity and equity of our chapter. I would like to strengthen the collaboration with different subspecialties societies to work together, making the ACP into the meeting point for internists nationwide, transmitting the values of the College such as High Value Care, excellence and professionalism in our clinical practice.
