Registry-Based Reporting
Some physicians report data to databases that track certain patients or procedures in order to improve patient tracking, management, and quality of care. CMS allows physicians to earn a bonus for PQRI participation based on the transmission of data from these clinical registries to CMS in 2009. Registries will be able to report quality data submitted by physicians for both the individual quality measure and measures group reporting methods and for the full 12 month and the six month (starting July) 2009 reporting periods.
The agency selected 32 registries for participation in PQRI 2008. It has yet to select the registries for the 2009 program but we expect that the 32 from PQRI 2008 will be retained and additional registries will be added. ACP makes information available on the 2008 registries, including the ones most likely to be used by internists, below.

Physician Quality Reporting Initiative (PQRI): Reporting Through Electronic Registries
ACP invited all electronic registry vendors
qualified by CMS to respond to a survey
about their product. The 5 vendors listed below responded to the request for information. PDFs of the response are provided here for your information. You can also review and compare information about these and other registry products (including those not qualified by CMS), at the Patient Registries Product Selector which is part of the ACP Diabetes Portal.
The CMS requirements for registry inclusion criteria for 2009 are here

While there are a variety of clinical registries operating in the United States, many of them are specialty or site-specific. Accordingly, the ability of internists to participate through the registry reporting option is likely limited at this time. ACP expects more registries relevant to internists to be added in 2009 and in subsequent years.
