Responsible Conduct of Research (RCR) Project
Under a grant from the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) and the DHHS Office of Research Integrity (ORI) the Center for Ethics and Professionalism is implementing a member education and support program on the responsible conduct of office-based research.
Research in the Physician's Office: Navigating the Ethical Minefield,
" an article published in The Hastings Center Report March/April 2008 issue, illustrates how to evaluate the appropriateness of participation in clinical trials for the physician in private practice.
A workshop, entitled Doing Research in the Office: Professionalism and Pitfalls will be presented at Internal Medicine 2007 and 2008 and at several chapter meetings. The workshop slides can be used by chapters who wish to present the content at future meetings.
A patient education brochure, Volunteering for a Research Study?
, has also been developed to assist patients who are considering volunteering to participate in a research study. The brochures are designed to facilitate conversations between doctors and their patients. They are intended for distribution in doctors’ offices and come in packages of 50. Click here
