Joseph E. Johnson Leadership Award
Joseph E. Johnson Leadership Award (“Johnson Award”) The Joseph E. Johnson Leadership Award was formerly administered by the Council of Associates and was established by the Board of Regents as a national award on January 11, 2003. Dr. Johnson served as ACP Governor, Regent, Treasurer, Interim Executive Vice President, and Senior Vice President for Membership.
The award recognizes an Associate member of the College who has demonstrated qualities that exemplify the College’s mission “to enhance the quality and effectiveness of health care by fostering excellence and professionalism in the practice of medicine.” Nominees may have outstanding achievements in any of a wide variety of areas, including leadership, medical practice, research, teaching, publications, advocacy, and/or volunteerism. For each year considered, nominees must be Associates as of June 30th of that year.
Please note: The awards process is different for the Johnson Award: a minimum of three letters of support is required, with five the maximum for nomination.
Complete applications, including three letters of support and the applicant’s curriculum vitae with complete bibliography must be submitted by April 1.
Potential contributors for letters of support include the candidate's ACP Governor, Program Director and colleagues as well as the initial nominating physician. For samples of letters and more information regarding the nominations process, please visit the ACP Awards and Masterships Booklet, or contact Meghann Williams, Staff Liaison to the Awards Committee.
