State Educational Requirements for Medical Licensing
by Patrick C. Alguire, MD, FACP
Director, Education and Career Development
States differ in their requirements for licensing. Some states
require the physician earn CME credits, while others do not. Even
among the states that demand documentation of CME, the amount per
year varies, as does the type. For example, some states may require
CME credits in specific educational categories such as domestic
violence, HIV infection, or quality assurance, whereas others do
not specify. In order to help you determine the requirements state
