Prep for Boards 2 Overview
Prep for Boards 2 focuses on core material that is included on the American Board of Internal Medicine Examination, and contains more than 500 Board-like multiple-choice questions with answers, references, and evidence-based critiques that explain why each option is either right or wrong. More than 50 Prep for Boards 2 questions are image-based and are modeled after questions on the ABIM exam.
Prep for Boards 2 also offers:
- The opportunity for learners to earn up to 75 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™
- Key Points that summarize the most important information a learner should take away from each question
- A CD-ROM version that provides instant searching and feedback on answered questions. Key Points of questions answered incorrectly can be tracked and managed, allowing you to review the Key Points again
- A PDA companion application bundled with the CD-ROM, allowing you to take the Key Points and Norm Laboratory Values information with you
- Image-based multiple-choice questions that are identical in format to the image-based questions on the ABIM examinations
- A streamlined Board Study Guide which helps you focus on proven test-taking strategies
The ACP Advantage
The new Prep for Boards 2 is more effective and valuable than ever before. More than 15,000 residents and candidates for recertification used the first edition of Prep for Boards. Prep for Boards 2 was published in response to the enthusiastic reception that the initial program received.
The ACP is the only organization with significant data at its disposal to enable it to create a Board preparation program specifically designed to pass the Boards. In order to create the most user-friendly, Board-specific tool, we:
- Surveyed more than 3,600 subscribers to the first edition of Prep for Boards
- Polled the ACP's Council of Associates-a group of leading residents-for suggestions on how to improve the first edition of Prep for Boards
- Surveyed more than 200 Associate members of the ACP shortly after they completed the 2003 American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) certifying examination.
- Reviewed performance data from recent Internal Medicine In-Training Examinations to look for potential opportunities for improvement in resident knowledge base
- Studied the blueprint of the ABIM certifying examination to ensure that the distribution of our questions mirrored the examination as much as possible
The information gathered from all of these sources helps to ensure that this program, more than any other, is ideal for residents studying for the certification exam as well as physicians preparing for recertification.
The questions in Prep for Boards 2 have been written by experienced question writers in the subspecialties of internal medicine, all of whom have previously worked as MKSAP authors. These writers have written new questions and updated the best questions from the first edition of Prep for Boards.
