New MKSAP® Maintenance of Certification Modules

Earning Self-Evaluation Process Points: The MKSAP Option

MKSAP 14 subscribers have a new option for earning Self-Evaluation of Medical Knowledge points (SEP) in the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) Maintenance of Certification program. Eight new MKSAP Maintenance of Certification Modules (MKSAP MOC II Modules) will replace the original MKSAP MOC Modules.

You can use each of these MKSAP MOC II Modules to earn 10 Self-Evaluation of Medical Knowledge points, qualifying for up to 80 points. Besides being a subscriber to MKSAP 14, you must be enrolled in ABIM’s Maintenance of Certification program to earn any of these points.

Take advantage of these Modules to earn the maximum number of SEP points permitted. Or, you can combine the MKSAP MOC II Modules with the ABIM Medical Knowledge Modules, including the new ABIM Annual Update Modules.

What’s New About the MKSAP MOC II Modules?

  • Modules include 4 that test knowledge of multidisciplinary office-based care and 4 that test knowledge of multidisciplinary inpatient care.
  • Each MKSAP MOC II Module offers fewer points than each of the original MKSAP MOC Modules (10 instead of 20) but involves fewer questions (25 instead of 60).
  • Modules are modeled after the new ABIM Annual Update Modules, each of which also involves 25 questions and 10 Self-Evaluation of Medical Knowledge points.

To earn points, find the MKSAP MOC II Modules link under the Recertification Resources page

Important: Phasing Out Original MOC Modules

The original MKSAP MOC Modules will remain on the Recertification Resources page at ACPonline.org until July 1,2008 if you are a MKSAP 13 or 14 subscriber. You will have until Dec. 31, 2008 to submit answers for each completed MKSAP MOC Module to ABIM, provided you have enrolled in the ABIM Maintenance of Certification program.

There is no extra charge to use these modules. The fee for maintenance of certification due to the ABIM remains the same.
