ACP President Among Physicians at the White House to Support Improving Health Care System

ACP President Joseph W. Stubbs, MD, FACP, was honored to be among a group of more than 100 physicians who were invited to appear with President Obama Monday at a White House event to showcase physician support for broad principles for improving the health care system. The principles, summarized in remarks made by the President, were consistent with ACP policies on prohibiting insurers from excluding patients with pre-existing conditions, offering individuals and small businesses a choice of health plans, providing subsidies for those who cannot afford coverage, providing loan forgiveness for primary care physicians, reducing defensive medicine costs, and replacing the Medicare SGR formula. The American Medical Association and several other specialty societies also appeared at the event, hosted on the White House lawn. Dr. Stubbs' participation in the event does not constitute endorsement by ACP of any particular legislative proposal or any other activities that may be of a political or partisan nature. He was accompanied by Wayne J. Riley, MD, MACP, a member of ACP's Board of Regents.
