William J. Hall, MD, FACP

William J. Hall, MD, FACP, of Rochester, N.Y., is President of the American College of Physicians-American Society of Internal Medicine. His term is one year, until April 2002.

Dr. Hall is chief of the general medicine/geriatrics unit and director of the division of geriatrics at the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry, Strong Memorial Hospital, in Rochester, N.Y.

Hall is a former ACP Governor for the Upstate New York Region. He was elected to chair the national Board of Governors for 1997-98 and was elected to the Board of Regents. Re-elected to the Board of Regents in 1999, he was then voted President-elect for 2000-2001.

Dr. Hall is a member of the editorial board of the Journal of the American Geriatrics Society and a past member of their ethics committee. He has also been active in the American Thoracic Society and the American Medical Association.

Dr. Hall is board-certified in internal medicine and pulmonary disease and has earned advanced achievement in internal medicine and added qualifications in geriatric medicine. Two of his recent research projects have concerned exercise strategies for the elderly and viral respiratory tract illness in adults.

A cum laude medical graduate of the University of Michigan School of Medicine, Ann Arbor, Mich., Dr. Hall completed internship and residency, including chief residency, at Yale-New Haven Hospital in New Haven, Conn. He also served two years with the U.S. Public Health Service in Hiroshima, Japan.

ACP-ASIM is the nation's largest medical specialty society. Its membership comprises more than 115,000 internal medicine physicians and medical students. Internists are specialists in the prevention, detection and treatment of illnesses that primarily affect adults.
