Annals Editor, Christine Laine, MD, MPH, FACP, Named President of Council of Science Editors

Philadelphia, May 19, 2010 – Christine Laine, MD, MPH, FACP, editor and senior vice president of Annals of Internal Medicine, the flagship journal of the American College of Physicians (ACP), was named President of the Council of Science Editors (CSE). Dr. Laine took office during the organization’s annual meeting in May.

CSE is an organization comprised of editorial professionals dedicated to the responsible and effective communication of science. Membership in CSE provides those in the field of science editing with career development, educational opportunities, and resources for identifying and implementing high-quality editorial practices. The President of CSE serves a one-year term.

A nationally-renowned academic general internist, Dr. Laine is the youngest editor in the history of Annals of Internal Medicine. Widely respected in the field of medical journalism, Dr. Laine also serves as Secretariat for the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors and is an active member of the Ethics Committee of the World Association of Medical Editors. She has authored many articles on subjects such as patient-centered communication; preventive care; quality of care; women in medicine; and HIV/AIDS care, among many others.

Dr. Laine is a Clinical Associate Professor of Medicine in the Division of Internal Medicine at Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia where she continues to teach and see patients.
