ACP-ASIM and SMS Working Together to Incorporate Clinical Content Into SMS Physician Dashboard

PHILADELPHIA and MALVERN, Pa. (May 2, 2000) -- The American College of Physicians-American Society of Internal Medicine (ACP-ASIM), the largest medical specialty society in the United States, and Shared Medical Systems Corp. (SMS), the worldwide leader in health information technology solutions, announced today that ACP-ASIM will incorporate some of its clinical knowledge databases and content into SMS' Physician Dashboard. The Physician Dashboard is an Internet portal that provides physicians with information and tools to support patient care, workflow, and professional enhancement.

"ACP-ASIM is well-known for its carefully researched guidelines and evidence-based clinical information," said ACP-ASIM COO and Deputy Executive Vice President John Tooker, MD, FACP. "SMS' Physician Dashboard will help make this information more widely available to physicians and health care professionals around the world, and we believe it will make a positive impact on patient care and safety. We recognize the need to utilize the capabilities that e-health services provide to further our mission of improving professionalism and excellence in medicine."

"Integrating ACP-ASIM's information into the Dashboard increases the benefits of our e-solutions for physicians, offering an unparalleled, one-source access to vital patient information and the medical profession's most respected resources," said John Cooper, vice president, e-business, SMS.

ACP-ASIM will provide a variety of content to SMS, including "ACP Journal Club," a searchable database of medical research articles that helps physicians find answers to patient problems; clinical practice and screening guidelines; and Clinical Problem Solving Cases, a new series of interactive physician education tools. Physicians who use the SMS Physician Dashboard can also link to ACP-ASIM's Web site (www.acponline.org) to access additional information and education resources.
