Medical Home Builder renamed ACP Practice Advisor to reflect broad scope of use
PHILADELPHIA, July 26, 2013 -- ACP Practice Advisor, formerly known as Medical Home Builder, has added two modules that internists can use to achieve Self-Evaluation of Practice Performance points towards Maintenance of Certification (MOC) through the American Board of Internal Medicine.
"Beginning January 2014, internal medicine physicians must earn some MOC points every two years and 100 MOC every five years in order to be listed as 'Meeting MOC Requirements,'" said Michael S. Barr, MD, MBA, FACP, who leads the American College of Physicians' (ACP) Division of Medical Practice. "A minimum of 20 of those points must be in the area of assessment of their clinical practice. ACP Practice Advisor's diabetes and adult immunization modules will help physicians achieve this requirement."
ACP plans to expand the number of modules associated with MOC and eventually offer the same opportunity to other specialties.
"We renamed the tool to more accurately reflect its broad scope," Dr. Barr said, explaining the name change. "Clinicians can use ACP Practice Advisor to improve particular clinical or office operations, or to meet the patient-centered medical home standards established by the NCQA, Joint Commission, or URAC."
Approximately 1,500 practices nationwide have successfully used ACP Practice Advisor since it was introduced in 2009. Providing practice teams with a robust self-assessment tool to improve patient care, streamline fundamental business operations, and identify and implement key features of the patient-centered medical home (PCMH), users are part of an online community of practices committed to improving patient care and identifying office efficiencies.
ACP Practice Advisor offers 27 self-paced modules that address the key attributes and expectations of a PCMH, improving clinical care, and practice management. Each module includes:
- Background information: an explanation of key principles, research, and important concepts.
- Practice Biopsy: a self-assessment to help practices identify opportunities for improvement or validate efforts already underway.
- Case Study: "How It Works in Practice" describes the efforts of a practice as it works through the findings generated through each module.
- Resource Library: relevant references, guides, and sample policies in a variety of formats. The resources from each module are combined into a master Resource Library that includes more than 800 sources of information.
- Reporting Functions: a feature to help track progress over-time, identify opportunities for improvement, and compare practices.
