USPSTF recommends that clinicians screen all sexually active women, including pregnant women, for gonorrhea infection if they are at increased risk for infection. (B)

Women at risk of infection have the individual or population risk factors: history of prior gonorrhea infection, other STDs, new or multiple sexual partners, inconsistent condom use, sex work, or drug use.

USPSTF found insufficient evidence to recommend for or against screening for gonorrhea in men at high risk of infection. (I)

USPSTF recommends against screening for gonorrhea in men or women who are at low risk for infection. (D)

USPSTF found insufficient evidence to recommend for or against routine screening for gonorrhea infection in pregnant women who are not at increased risk for infection. (I)

USPSTF strongly recommends prophylactic ocular topical medication against gonococcal ophthalmia neonatorum for all newborns. (A)
