The two major components of the MKSAP 12 Update are the Syllabus, containing the Update content, and the Self-Assessment component, containing 120 new multiple-choice questions, answers, and critiques. MKSAP 12 CD-ROM users may wish to access the Update content from within the context of the core MKSAP 12 program. To do so, simply replace your existing MKSAP 12 CD-ROM with this one (your MKSAP 12 Update CD-ROM). Sections with related Update content will now show "Update Available" buttons. Clicking on will open new windows containing the Update content. The 120 new multiple-choice questions can only be viewed through the Update program.

The CD-ROM system automatically calculates your scores for each test. You may change your answers or retake the tests as often as you like in order to achieve a minimum test score, which is a score significantly above the chance level, for CME credit. Upon completion of each test, the system determines if you are eligible for CME credit. If so, you are presented with an option to select the exact number of hours you actually spent on that test (to the nearest quarter hour and up to a maximum determined by the ACP–ASIM for each discipline). A CME submission form will appear at the bottom of the Answer Sheet, along with instructions for transmitting the CME request to the ACP–ASIM in one of three different ways. The Answer Sheet also includes several features specifically designed to assist you with assessing your areas of strength and weakness.
