Associates becoming full Members eligible for discounts

If you are an ACP-ASIM Associate, you're probably planning on becoming a full member in the College—eventually. Putting it off, however, could cost you a bundle.

Under a plan designed to help new College Members shoulder their new financial load, Associates who move directly to full membership will get a break on membership dues and ACP-ASIM products and services for up to five years. If your associate membership lapses before you become a full member, however, you will not be eligible for these discounts.

Here's how it works. If you are an Associate in good standing and you move directly to full membership, you pay the low, Associate dues rate for the following two years. You also pay the lower Associate rate for products like MKSAP, educational courses and Annual Session registration. (The College will bill you for chapter dues, which fund important local projects, and for an optional contribution to the ACP-ASIM Foundation.)

After two years, you pay reduced membership dues for three more years, and receive normal member discounts on the College's programs, products and services. Over five years, the program can save you more than $500.

You can move directly from Associate status to full membership in two ways. ABIM-certified Associates who have paid their current dues will automatically be elected to full membership in July unless they opt not to do so. Associates who have completed training but are not yet board certified must submit a proposal form by May to participate in this program.

ACP-ASIM created the program to help ease the financial burdens of members who are entering the workforce and need the College's resources. The program is also open to Canadian Associates who have paid their dues and are certified in internal medicine by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.

Associates who resign, are dropped because they don't pay their dues or allow their membership to lapse on June 30 cannot participate in this program. When they rejoin the College, they must pay the full dues rate.
