Free CD-ROM can help promote your practice

As part of its “Doctors for Adults” public awareness campaign, the College has created a CD-ROM that members can use to promote their practices and spread the College’s messages about internal medicine.
The free CD-ROM contains print and radio ads that internists can customize to fit their practices. Each CD-ROM contains eight black-and-white print ads in three different sizes and a 60-second radio spot.
Four of the print ads focus on women’s health themes such as osteoporosis, breast cancer, menopause and heart disease/stroke. The other four ads use the College’s “nostalgia” theme aimed at convincing America’s baby-boomers to see an internist.

College releases two publications for young physicians

The College has released a new preventive services pocket guide and an updated version of its practice management guide for young physicians.
The “ACP–ASIM Pocket Guide to Selected Preventive Services for Adults” lists recommended frequencies and target populations for more than two dozen common screening, immunization and counseling services. The guide also includes clinical guidelines for treating hypertension, high cholesterol and diabetes mellitus.
The 25-page “Young Physician Practice Management Survival Handbook” provides resources to help physicians who are entering practice do everything from get credentials from payers to practice cross-cultural medicine. The updated booklet also provides a basic shopping list to help physicians set up a medical practice.
The Young Physicians Subcommittee distributed both guides at Annual Session. They are now available to all College members free of charge by contacting Jean Elliott at 800-523-1546, ext. 2692.
College works with program to foster volunteer health care

The College is working with an organization that helps connect physicians who want to do volunteer work with individuals and organizations that need help.
Volunteers in Health Care (VIH) maintains a database of more than 3,000 health care projects around the country that need medical volunteers. The organization also helps physicians and other providers find free and reduced price medications through drug makers’ patient assistance programs.
VIH also offers physicians RxAssist, a searchable Internet database that provides information on nearly 100 programs covering about 700 medications. Physicians can use the software to search for covered drugs by company, brand name, generic name or drug class.

Don’t forget about chapter dues

When you receive your dues notice, please remember to include chapter dues in your payment.
Chapter dues provide the primary support for local activities including educational meetings, mentoring programs for medical students, local Associates’ research competitions and advocacy with state and federal legislators. Chapter dues also help offset the cost of local support staff and provide funding for chapter initiatives.
