Database helps connect young doctors with mentors

A new College database can help young internists find mentors who work in their area or have similar interests.

The mentoring database, which was created by the College's Young Physicians Subcommittee, identifies physicians willing to work with younger colleagues. Mentors in the database include practicing internists, chairs of medicine and residency program directors.

Young physicians can search for a mentor by state, specialty, special interest and other characteristics. Because the database includes e-mail addresses, users can contact a mentor directly.

The database is online. (Free member registration on ACP Online is required.)

Physicians interested in adding their names to the database can fill out an online form.

For more information, contact Jean Elliott via e-mail or call him at 800-523-1546, ext. 2692.

Preparing for recertification? The College can help

A new product from the College can help busy internists prepare for the recertification exam in general internal medicine.

The program is a recording of a live, two-day recertification preparation course offered at this year's Annual Session. The session featured brief didactic presentations and case-based, multiple-choice questions that mimic the format used in the recertification examination.

Expert faculty at the course engaged participants in clinical problem-solving and used some multiple-choice questions drawn from the College's MKSAP program.

The course offers up to 14 hours of category 1 CME credit and is available on audiotape, videotape, CD or DVD. A two-book syllabus is included with the program.
