Chapters present Laureate Awards, others
ACP chapters have presented Laureate Awards to 10 internists, and honored other chapter members for their service in volunteerism, teaching and political advocacy.
Chapter awards honor College Masters, Fellows and Members—as well as members of the community—who have demonstrated by their example and conduct an abiding commitment to excellence in medical care, education and research, and who provided service to their communities and the College.

PIER on PDA transitions to new enhanced program
ACP and Skyscape Inc. have announced an agreement to transition all PIER PDA subscribers to a new Skyscape mobile program that combines PIER—the College's point-of-care, Web-based decision-support tool—with other features. Skyscape is the leading provider of interactive mobile medical references, with a registered user base of 450,000 practitioners and more than 300 resources covering 30-plus medical specialties.
Under the agreement, all current subscribers to PIER PDA can upgrade to a free, one-year subscription for a special Skyscape bundle that includes PIER and the dosing companion from the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP).
Skyscape's version of PIER includes PIER's rationale and evidence sections plus hundreds of images and supplemental tables not previously available. In addition, Skyscape is offering special savings to all other ACP Members on PIER and on hundreds of other physician references for mobile devices.

Physicians encouraged to enroll in Special Olympics directory
ACP is urging members to sign up for the "Healthy Athletes" clinician directory, a new directory that will give prospective patients who have intellectual disabilities the names of providers willing to treat them. The directory is located on the Special Olympics Web site.
The directory asks for a minimum of physician information, including name and e-mail address. Listing your name in the directory does not guarantee patients' access to care, but only indicates that you are willing to provide care. Recent research shows that patients with intellectual disabilities have greater health care needs and more difficulties accessing health care services and physicians than the general public.
The directory, which was launched earlier this fall in partnership with the American Academy of Family Physicians, will be open to the public in early 2006.
