Troubleshooting Acrobat PDF Problems

Some users have reported that they've been unable to view or print PDF documents from our web site when using the Adobe Acrobat Reader browser plugin.

We suggest viewing or printing the PDF using the standalone Acrobat Reader application instead of the plugin by following these steps:

  1. Right-click on the link to the PDF file to pop up a menu (Macintosh users: click on the link and hold the mouse button down until a menu appears).
  2. Choose "Save target as...", "Save this link as...", or "Download link to disk" from the pop-up menu (exact wording depends on what web browser you are using). A "Save as.." box will come up and you can choose a name and location for the file. This will save the PDF document as a file on your computer.
  3. Open up the Acrobat Reader application. From the File menu, choose Open and locate the file you downloaded in step 3. Click OK and the PDF file should open correctly.

Additional Information

This is a frequently reported problem with the Acrobat Reader plugin. Adobe used to have a support page listing workarounds, but they appear to have removed it from their web site.

If you are using an older version of Acrobat Reader, consider upgrading to the latest version (XI as of this writing).
