Subspecialty Training and Certificates of Added Qualification

Patrick C. Alguire, MD, FACP
Director, Education and Career Development

Internal medicine training offers a wide variety of career choices following training. Many graduates will enter careers in general internal medicine, while others will enter into subspecialty training. For those interested in subspecialty training, ACP is providing a brief description of subspecialty and other internal medicineÐ related training programs. Each overview contains a brief description of the discipline, its associated procedures, information on training and board certification, and major professional societies and publications. The directory also provides demographic information, including how many training programs and positions are available, gender and percentage of U.S. graduates in the training programs, and practice characteristics of the graduates.
