Third Party Relations

ACP leadership has identified assisting chapters with influencing third party payers as a high priority. The College's Washington office offers the following resources/services:

Third Party Relations Manual

The manual discusses methods to identify members' concerns and provides instructions for establishing a committee to deal with these issues. The manual also provides information regarding prominent billing and coding issues; the process Medicare uses to audit physicians; general compliance issues; and advice for helping individual members.

Information Sharing Tools

The Washington office can communicate with chapter representatives who are vital to local level policy decisions through the Chapter Leader Network. Also, a Carrier Advisory Committee (CAC) electronic forum, similar to the Governors Information Center has been established. This two-way communication will optimize chapter efforts and allow the Washington office to detect national trends.

Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Service (CMS) Representation at Chapter Meetings

The Washington office can help chapters involve Medicare and/ or private payer officials in chapter meetings.

Meeting Agenda Review

The Washington office will review agendas in advance of chapter meetings with carriers, CMS regional offices, and other payers.

Governors and other chapter representatives interested in working with local payers should contact ACP’s Department of Regulatory and Insurer Affairs in our Washington office at 800- 338-2746.

Public Policy Virtual Library

The Public Policy Virtual Library (PPVL) is a repository of ACP's current and historic policies and the Policy Compendium.
