Practical Gynecology - Patient Questionnaires

Two patient questionnaires that help physicians assess women's sexual dysfunction are readily available. The first, the Female Sexual Distress Scale-Revised (FSDS-R), helps determine the degree of distress in women reporting sexual problems (and has been validated in studies of women reporting low sexual desire specifically). A score of 11 or higher indicates a significant level of distress, and is correlated with a likelihood of a sexual disorder (as opposed to merely sexual dysfunction) and a greater chance that the patient is a good candidate for treatment. The FSDS-R questionnaire is available to print and distribute to patients.

The second patient questionnaire, The Female Sexual Function Index, is a more global, 19-item questionnaire that assesses patient sexual function in the domains of desire, arousal, pain, orgasm and satisfaction. This questionnaire is helpful in characterizing the nature of a woman's sexual problem, and may be particularly useful when her problem is multi-dimensional. This questionnaire and the scoring system are easily accessible at www.FSFIquestionnaire.com.
