International Meetings Update
29th World Congress of Internal Medicine
September 16-20, 2008
Prof. Dr. Roberto Reussi was the President of the XXIX World Congress of Internal Medicine, held September 16-20, 2008 in Buenos Aires, Argentina. The Congress was organized and hosted by the Sociedad de Medicina Interna de Buenos Aires (SMIBA) with the support of the International Society of Internal Medicine (ISIM). More than ten thousand physicians from all over the world attended the meeting, many of them from Latin America. Many young physicians and resident physicians were part of those who attended.
Opening Ceremony of the World Congress of Internal Medicine
Donna Sweet, MD, MACP served as the ACP International Speaker at this meeting. Dr. Sweet gave a lecture entitled "AIDS: The Third Decade". She also had the opportunity to interact with the organizers and other speakers at the Congress as the ambassador of ACP. The ACP International Office staff had an exhibit booth with many ACP educational resources and membership information at the meeting.

Canadian Society of Internal Medicine Annual Scientific Meeting
October 16-18, 2008
The Canadian Society of Internal Medicine Annual Scientific Meeting was held October 16-18, 2008 in Montreal, Canada. The ACP exhibited at this meeting, which included approximately 250 attendees from all over Canada.
Harold C. Sox, MD, MACP served as the ACP International Speaker at this meeting.
Annual Session of the Peruvian Society of Internal Medicine
October 23-26, 2008
The Annual Session of the Peruvian Society of Internal Medicine was held October 23-26, 2008 in Lima, Peru. Several hundred physicians attended the meeting, ranging from academic faculty working in modern medical schools to practicing internists working in rural settings with limited resources.
Steven McGee, MD, FACP served as the ACP International Speaker at this meeting. Dr. McGee gave two lectures during the program, entitled "Use of Corticosteroids in Treating Infectious Diseases", and "Evidence-Based Physicial Diagnosis". Simultaneous interpretation into Spanish was provided for the audience. Dr. McGee also had the opportunity to meet with Dr. Salomon Zavala (President, Peruvian Society of Internal Medicine), Dr. Aldo Vivar (Vice President, Peruvian Society of Internal Medicine), and Dr. Eduardo Penny (President, Latin American Society of Internal Medicine) to discuss various issues including challenges faced by Peruvian and American internists.
Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow Triennial Conference
November 6-7, 2008
The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow Triennial Conference was held November 6-7, 2008 in Glasgow, Scotland. Around 200 attendees were present at the meeting.
Joel S. Levine, MD, MACP, Immediate Past Chair of the ACP Board of Regents served as the ACP College Representative at this meeting. Dr. Levine had the opportunity to meet with Brian Williams, MD, Hon DSc, President of the RCPSG and Francis Dunn, MbChB, FRCP, FACC, Vice President of the RCPSG.
Mexican College of Internal Medicine 31st National Congress/ACP Mexico Chapter Meeting
November 26-30, 2008
The 31st National Congress of the Mexican College of Internal Medicine was held in conjunction with the ACP Mexico Chapter Meeting November 26-30 in Boca del Rio, Veracruz, Mexico.
The Congress program included local and international faculty, who gave updates on all sub-specialties of internal medicine. Heriberto A. Martinez Camacho, Immediate Past President, Mexican College of Internal Medicine (CMIM, for its initals in Spanish) invited Maximo Brito, MD, FACP as the ACP International Speaker at this meeting. Dr. Guadalupe Castro Martinez was inducted as 2008-09 President of CMIM.
22nd Annual Meeting of Taiwan Society of Internal Medicine

The 22nd Annual Meeting of the Taiwan Society of Internal Medicine was held November 29-30, 2008 in Taipei, Taiwan. Around 5,000 attendees were present at the meeting.
