Impact of the Changing Environment on Global Health

The panel will discuss how the changing environment is affecting global health using an international faculty. It will cover the demographic impact of the environment and detail manifestations of environment-related disorders and environmental contributions to emerging drug-resistant patterns. The course will also highlight advances in prevention and management of environmental-related illness.
The Contribution of Islam to Modern Medicine

Western medicine generally begins its description of its own history with the Greeks (Hippocrates) and Romans (Galen), with an occasional allusion to ancient Egypt, India and China. How much of this history we might know at all is doubtful, had it not been for the 10 centuries of enlightenment in lands touched by Islam. While Western Europe struggled through the Dark Ages, Muslim physicians –following the admonition of the Holy Koran to seek knowledge, both preserved and translated, disseminated and newly created the knowledge base of medicine. In this Meet the Professor course, Faith T. Fitzgerald, MD, MACP, will talk about the contribution of early Islam to Western Medicine. It will combine not only history, much of which is little known to many physicians, as well as a fascinating medical/historical quiz.
