What is Internal Medicine?
As part of ACP’s ongoing efforts to communicate the unique value of internal medicine, we are implementing an awareness campaign to fortify the identity of internists and reinforce pride of profession in internal medicine. The core of this iniative is a new definition of internal medicine that ACP, and we hope others, will use to clarify how internists are unique and define what sets us apart. The definition was crafted with input from colleagues in other internal medicine organizations and vetted through research among internists.
"Internal medicine physicians are specialists who apply scientific knowledge and clinical expertise to the diagnosis, treatment, and compassionate care of adults across the spectrum from health to complex illness."
