Meet Our Governor-elect

West Virginia Chapter

Congratulations to the West Virginia Chapter Governor-Elect, John Thomas Dorsey III, MD, FACP. Our new Governor-elect will do a year of training as a Governor-elect and then will start his four-year term as Governor in the Spring of 2015. As Governor, Dr. Dorsey will serve as the official representative of the College for the West Virginia Chapter, providing a link between members at the local level and leadership at the national level. In the meantime, Dr. Dorsey will be working closely with Dr. Clark (the current Governor) and College staff to learn about the College and his duties as Governor. POST DOCTORAL TRAINING: Internal Medicine, Naval Regional Medical Center Portsmouth VA Gastroenterology, National Naval Medical Center Bethesda MD

CERTIFICATION: Internal Medicine 1985 Gastroenterology 1988 Geriatrics 1990-2000

MILITARY: United States Navy 1981-1990

PRESENT POSITION: Solo Private Practice, Wheeling WV

ACP ACTIVITIES: Fellowship 1990, Governorís Council 1993-present, Chair State ACP meeting x2, various roles at chapter meetings(presenter, judge)

CHAPTER INVOLVEMENT AND LEADERSHIP ACTIVITIES: As above

HOSPITAL/COMMUNITY SERVICE: Volunteer physician, Wheeling Health Right (free clinic) President, Medical Dental Staff, East Ohio Regional Hospital 1998 Director, GI lab , Wheeling Hospital Faculty, Wheeling Hospital Family Medicine Residency Faculty, Ohio Valley Medical Center Internal Medicine and Emergency Medicine Residencies

Vision Statement

My goals for the West Virginia chapter of the ACP:

  1. Advocate for the patients and physicians of West Virginia
  2. Grow the membership by reaching out to all members of the state community including primary care and subspecialists, community and academic physicians, medical students and resident physicians.
  3. Continue to provide excellent educational activities of the chapter.
  4. Encourage mentorship of medical students and resident physicians by the chapter.
