From the Governor
Greetings once again from La Crosse. I hope everyone has been enjoying the beautiful spring weather here in Wisconsin. I want to update you on a number of things that have occurred during the winter months and will be happening over the next several months both in our Wisconsin ACP chapter and on the national ACP level.
I hope you all have a great summer and find some time to spend with family and friends as well as to refresh yourselves.
National ACP News
The national ACP was watching intently as the Supreme Court heard arguments about the ACA. The decision that will be handed down in June by the court will be one of the most widely anticipated and most significant decisions in years. The ACP has opted to not make any statements on the pending Supreme Court decision since the expertise of the ACP is not in law. Obviously the decision by the Supreme Court will have huge ramifications no matter which way they decide.
The National ACP meeting –‘ACP Internal Medicine 2012’ was held April 19-21st in New Orleans, LA. It remains one of the most educational and dynamic medical meetings of the year. Recordings of specific educational sessions from the meeting can be ordered online.
Wisconsin Chapter News
Our next state meeting will be Friday and Saturday, September 7- 8th at the Wilderness Resort in Wisconsin Dells. We have shortened this year’s meeting to a two day event. We have maintained key elements of the meeting despite shortening the agenda. There will be two SEP modules on Friday morning for those pursuing ABIM recertification. Resident vignette presentations will occur on Friday afternoon and we have lengthened this session somewhat but have dropped the resident poster presentations from this year’s meeting. Saturday has a busy schedule of clinical updates for hospitalists and ambulists plus a report from Dr. Chuck Cutler who is Chair of the ACP Board of Regents. We will end the day with our traditional residents’ competition in ‘Doctor’s Dilemma’ then cap off Saturday evening with our annual George Magnin Awards Banquet and presentation of our annual chapter awards. I hope you can join us this year for what is typically a wonderfully educational and enjoyable event.
Please save the dates for our Annual Scientific Meeting on September 7-8th. Watch for further details via email and for your meeting brochure to be arriving in the US mail in about a month. Feel free to contact the ACP-Wisconsin Office with any questions: Jenni Rodriguez, Chapter Executive, or phone her at 414-276-8788
ACP Leadership Day
Leadership Day in Washington D.C. is occurring this year on June 6-7th. We will be taking a delegation representing our Wisconsin ACP chapter to D.C. to speak directly with our state senators and representatives. We meet directly with members of both houses in their offices and speak with them about issues of interest to the ACP. Our delegation is full for this year, but please keep in mind the possibility of attending this unique event in 2013.

The ABIM Foundation in cooperation with nine specialty societies including the ACP has developed the “Choosing Wisely” campaign. This has resulted in each of the nine specialty societies creating a ‘Top 5’ list. These lists include the top five things in each of these specialty areas that physicians and patients should question. This is a list all primary care physicians should familiarize themselves with. The list is on the ABIM Foundation website and can be accessed at here.
I would be happy to contact anyone about the benefits of ACP membership or advancement to Fellowship. Please email me the names of any acquaintances you feel would be encouraged to join the ACP or to advance to Fellowship by a call or email from me. My email address is: SBPearso@GundLuth.org.
