Vision Statement
During times of both tremendous need and tremendous change, the Vermont ACP will be actively engaged in achieving the national vision “to be the recognized leader in quality patient care, advocacy, education and enhancing career satisfaction for internal medicine and its subspecialties,” in our own state. ACP Desired Future (April 2009) notes four areas that shape the long-term ACP vision: Delivery of Quality Patient Care, Reform of the U.S. Healthcare Delivery System, Excellence in Education, and Leader and Unifier of the Internal Medicine Community. Two ACP strategic plan goals, “to advocate responsible positions on individual health and on public policy relating to health care,” and “to unify the many voices of internal medicine and its subspecialties”, would be the foundation for my work. My goal is to support our collective efforts to achieve the national ACP vision and ensure Vermont’s strengths are part of the national discussion.

Vision Statement
My involvement with the ACP has been extremely gratifying and has included both regional and national service. Here in Vermont, I have served on the Vermont Council for many years, as well as speaking and helping organize our annual get-together. Nationally, I’ve been an author for the MKSAP Primary Care section and have spoken at the Annual Session. My interest in pursuing the position of Governor is primarily to serve two groups; the people/patients of the State of Vermont (especially those lesser-served) and the physicians who care for them. Issues of special interest to me include access to care, the rising cost of health care, medical education, issues of physician satisfaction and the continued influence of pharmaceutical companies. With health care reform being actively discussed, it would be an exciting time to serve as an ACP Governor. Thank you for your consideration.
