Spring time has arrived for most parts of the country. It certainly already feels like summer in San Antonio, TX! I wanted to make a correction to my last newsletter that stated that our annual dues would increase to $40 when actually it was only increased to $35 which matches our other military chapters’ annual dues. This is still very reasonable compared to what other chapters have for their dues. So this is a good time for me to remind you to pay your annual dues to ACP. Despite that, the ACP is one of the largest professional medical societies with 131,000 members.

Hopefully all of our young physicians (by ACP definition that is less than 16 years in practice since graduating from medical school) received the e-mail from our Council of Young Physicians leaders Maj Nathan Evans and Maj Brian White. Please sign up for their highly informative newsletter updating pertinent items for Air Force Internists. It is possible that your local IT firewalls may be blocking some e-mails. E-mails will also be posted on the chapter website.

I noticed that many members’ ranks are incorrect but unfortunately I don’t have access to change that in the ACP database therefore I will request that if your rank is incorrect please email Laura Dutton at ldutton@acponline.org with their rank updates. You do have the ability on the ACP website to change your e-mail address by updating your profile.

This year’s national meeting was held in beautiful San Diego, California. There were excellent sessions throughout the entire meeting on a wide variety of topics. Marching in this year’s Convocation Ceremony were two of our Air Force colleagues Maj Synya Balanon (Travis AFB) and Maj Joseph Baber (Keesler AFB)

Save the date for the 2011 Army & Air Force meeting to be held in San Antonio, TX Nov 1-4, 2011 at the Grand Hyatt. The next national ACP meeting will be held April 17-18, 2012 in New Orleans. There are ongoing discussions about the possibility of a Tri-Service meeting in the National Capital Area for 2012! Best wishes to Navy CAPT Jeff Cole, the outgoing Navy Governor and hail to the incoming Navy Governor CAPT Mark Dick of Bremerton, WA. Until next time, take care and best wishes. For those that are leaving the Air Force this summer we thank you for your service, we will miss you and we wish you well in your next endeavor! You can remain a member of the Air Force Chapter and if you decide to also join your state chapter that may be a possibility in the near future.
