Congratulations to our new Governor of the Rhode Island Chapter, Nitin S. Damle, MD, FACP. Dr. Damle has taken the place of Dr. Hennessey, starting his four year term as Governor in the April of 2007. Below you will find more details about Dr. Damle including his vision for the chapter.

PRESENT POSITION: Private Practice of General Internal Medicine, Founding Partner, South County Internal Medicine Inc., Wakefield, RI 1988-present, Seven physician primary care practice; Consultant in Internal Medicine, University of RI Health Services, Kingston, RI 2000-present;

Vision Statement
- Through the work of the ACP, foster high quality and efficient medicine
- Promote the important role of internal medicine in preventing and treating complex and chronic medical conditions.
- Advocate for access to affordable, quality healthcare for all patients.
- Advocate for fair and socially responsible reimbursement that promotes an interest in internal medicine.
- Promote health information technology with electronic medical records (EHR) and the statewide health information exchange. Implement "Stark legislation" changes for EHR adoption.
- Evaluate pay for performance programs for accuracy and fairness in assessment and reimbursement for evidence-based medicine.
- Support national efforts to fix the flawed Medicare SGR formula.
- Promote membership advancement to fellowship for new and established internists.
- Encourage participation by all members on committees, the council and advocacy groups.
