Vision Statement
Internal Medicine has declined in popularity with medical students and in overall appeal. The ACP's traditional role as a preeminent educational organization for internists needs to be maintained. In addition the ACP needs to continually improve it's representation of internal medicine before the public by advocacy for the best health care for the citizens of the US. It needs to champion reform of the dysfunctional system in which internists must work each day in providing care for their patients. The ACP needs to effectively represent internists before legislative bodies to partner with them in providing a more cost-effective and equitable health care system. It must, in addition, seek physician payment reform and undo the current inequity of a procedure-based remuneration system. Lastly the ACP must increase its membership to achieve strength in numbers to achieve its goals.

Vision Statement
The practice of Internal Medicine in Pennsylvania and the United States is facing tremendous challenges. I believe that the Eastern PA ACP can play a key role to insure that the practice environment will be positive for both internists and our patients. Our chapter can be a force for meaningful change through its major functions: advocacy, collaboration and education. We must continue to work closely with the two other states ACP Chapters through the Pennsylvania College of Internal Medicine to be the major advocate for internists in the Commonwealth. To be effective in the advocacy role, we must collaborate with other organizations including the subspecialty societies, state and county medical societies, medical schools, residency programs and state agencies. In addition, it is essential that we attract more members into our ACP chapter and stimulate more medical students to consider an internal medicine career. Our chapter, working in cohort with national ACP, must provide timely and effective education on the many practice issues confronting internists including reimbursement, malpractice, electronic health record, "patient-centered care", tools for measuring quality, methods for maximizing practice income while reducing practice costs, and enhancing professionalism. I believe we can be effective in advancing the practice of internal medicine creating a better environment for both patients and internists.
