2006 Evergreen Award Winner

The Ohio Chapter received the 2006 Evergreen Award for the following program:

Associate and Medical Student Fundraising Events
In an effort to demonstrate the value of volunteerism to Associates and Medical Students, the Ohio Chapter developed several initiatives to actively engage them. Both of the fundraising activities took place at the Annual Chapter Meeting. The Medical Students raised money for the American Red Cross to support hurricane relief efforts. The Medical Student Committee contacted the American Red Cross to obtain brochures on emergency preparedness and the importance of planning for adequate prescriptions in case of an emergency. The brochures are designed for patients and were distributed during the fundraiser. In addition, the Chapter designed a disaster relief pin with the ACP Chapter logo and distributed these to thank members for their donation and support of hurricane relief efforts. For the past three years, the Associates Council has hosted a raffle for medical textbooks and products at the chapter meeting. The Ohio Association of Free Clinics was chosen all three years to receive the proceeds of the raffle ticket sales. The raffle tickets are priced at $1.00 per ticket or six tickets for $5.00. Both of the Associates and Medical Students fundraising activities resulted in over $2,300 in donations for the American Red Cross and the Ohio Association of Free Clinics. These fundraising events are instrumental to the chapter by showcasing future leaders, increasing the value of the Medical Student Committee and the Associate Council, and promoting the Chapter's commitment to community service and volunteerism.

Representatives from 11 ACP Chapters accepted the Evergreen Awards at Annual Session. The awards honor chapter efforts that ranged from developing programs for students to increasing membership.
