Dr. Manohar receives ‘Top Ten Key Contact Special Recognition Award’
Washington, May 14, 2008 – Murli Manohar, MD, FACP, a Canton, Ohio physician, last night received the ‘Top Ten Key Contact Special Recognition Award’ from the American College of Physicians (ACP). Dr. Manohar was cited by Robert Doherty, ACP senior vice president, governmental affairs and public policy, for the time and energy he has given to support ACP’s federal grassroots advocacy program.
Upon receiving his award from the Chair-elect of ACP’s Board of Governors, Donald W. Hatton, MD, FACP, Dr. Manohar was told that among his most notable contributions were his unrelenting pursuits on behalf of internists and his consistent communication with members of Congress, keeping them aware of the plight of internal medicine. His efforts to engage his colleagues on the importance of political activism were also noted.
The Awards Program, which was established in 1995 as a means of recognizing individuals who have made exceptional efforts in support on the College’s public policy agenda, is a feature of ACP’s annual Leadership Day. Currently, ACP has more than 5,500 Key Contacts supporting the work of the Washington, D.C. advocacy staff.
Recipients of the award are selected on the basis of the quantity and quality of responses to the College’s legislative alerts and other federal grassroots advocacy initiative. Previous award-winning activities have included:
- Responding to College Legislative Alerts;
- Writing Op-Eds and letters to the editors;
- Expanding chapter support of federal advocacy;
- Recruiting new Key Contacts; and
- Organizing Leadership Day visits and other meetings with legislators.
