ACP Honors New Mexico Chapter with an Evergreen Award

At this year's Internal Medicine Meeting, ACP presented fifteen Evergreen Awards to honor Chapters that created new programs that strengthened the chapter and increased member communication and involvement.
The New Mexico Chapter received the 2007 Evergreen Award for increasing Associate recruitment and enhancing their participation in national and local ACP Chapter activities. Here is a brief description of the chapters' effort.
The New Mexico Chapter Council developed a plan to increase the number of members and to enhance Associate participation in national and local ACP activities. The initiatives to achieve these objectives included strengthening the relationship between the Department of Medicine at the University of New Mexico and the Chapter. This was critical to gain support for increasing ACP Associate members and encouraging leadership opportunities amongst Associates including their increased participation in annual meetings. Sustained initiatives, over the past 3 ½ years have resulted in vastly improved two-way communication between the Department and the Chapter and an increase in ACP Fellowship amongst faculty leadership from 50% to 100% in 2006. Another result of the initiative was a 42% increase in Associate membership and increased opportunities for ACP leadership roles, both locally and nationally. The Chapter also experienced a significant increase in Associate involvement at the annual chapter meeting; specifically, a sustained doubling of abstract submissions by Associates in each of the last three years.
