Vision Statement
I was in solo practice and in managed care; now I am at the University combining practice with teaching our future physicians. These diverse experiences give me a unique perspective on the challenges facing us. I support ACP’s efforts to provide affordable healthcare to all Americans without implementing socialized medicine. The ACP recognizes the need to reform medical liability simultaneously with health care reform---this is required in order to contain health care costs. The ACP recognizes the need to increase the number of primary care internists and is expanding programs to provide scholarships and loan forgiveness to those residents entering primary care. The ACP offers practical ways in which to manage our practices, improve patient treatment, and influence future developments. We are on the brink of a major change in the practice of medicine. With your support I look forward to being an integral part of this process.

Vision Statement
As Governor of the New Mexico Chapter, I would work with members, “To preserve and maintain the highest traditions and precepts of our professional calling…” Internists in the ACP are dedicated to excellence in patient care and medical education for themselves and the next generation. Through the ACP, we doctors put our patients’ needs front and center. In this most challenging time for the practice of medicine, the ACP has been leading the patient-centered medical home movement. To achieve this goal to improve the health of New Mexicans will require working with our legislators and other physician groups to remove the barriers to practicing Internal Medicine in ways that will achieve better outcomes for patients and enhance the physician-patient relationship. Through the Annual Meeting and activities throughout the year with internists, medical students, residents, hospitalists and others, the New Mexico chapter remains a force for professional development and positive change.
