G. Swink Hicks, Jr., MD, FACP
Dr. Hicks was born in Natchez, Mississippi, and attended Natchez public schools. He attended Millsaps College in Jackson, Mississippi, graduating cum laude in 1972. He attended the University of Mississippi School of Medicine from 1971-1975. He completed his internal medicine residency at the University of Mississippi and the Department of Veterans Affairs in 1978. He is board certified in internal medicine.
Dr. Hicks was on staff at the Jackson, Mississippi Department of Veterans Affairs Hospital from 1978 until 1993. During that time, he was director of diabetic clinic, director of the medical consult service and attending physician on the inpatient general medicine service. He also served as Chief, section of General Internal Medicine, from 1989-1993.
Dr. Hicks took a full time faculty position with the Department of Medicine at the University of Mississippi School of Medicine in 1994. He has been Professor of Medicine since 2003. He served as medical director of the Department of Medicine ambulatory clinic from 1999-2002. He presently is an attending physician on both the Inpatient teaching service as well as in the ambulatory care clinic. He has been a preceptor for the Introduction to Clinical Medicine course from 1976 until the present. Dr. Hicks was named Clinical faculty member of the year by Alpha Omega Alpha in 2000, voted teacher of the year by the internal medicine residents in 2001 and voted an allstar teacher by the internal medicine residents in 2007.
Dr. Hicks is married to Susan Upton Hicks and they presently reside in Madison, Mississippi.
