Vision Statement

Our Chapter of the ACP continues to serve the citizens of the most unhealthy state in the country. Our members struggle with rising obesity, diabetes, hypertension, aging of our population, the continuing effects of Katrina, and any number of health care challenges. Our members deserve the support of the ACP. However, less than half of the Internists in the state are members of the ACP. We must continue to work to make ACP membership relevant and worth the investment of dues and time. Coordination with the various subspecialty organizations and colleges is one step. Education certainly is a common interest, as well as lobbying and other government affairs. We must work closely with UMC and other medical schools to attract students and residents to our specialty. Finally, declining reimbursement must be addressed by the national office. Hard work for low pay will never attract the best doctors to Internal Medicine. The greater our numbers, the louder our voice.
