Sandtown Habitat for Humanity
The 20th annual Sandtown Habitat for Humanity Building Week is scheduled for June 20-24, 2011 and I am once again organizing volunteers interested in providing first-aid support for morning (8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.) or afternoon (12:30 p.m.-4:30 p.m.) shifts during that week. Volunteers get a T-shirt and lunch for their efforts and volunteers that come in the AM get to participate in a community/volunteer kick-off gathering with singing and testimony. Some volunteers sign up to swing a hammer part of the day as a regular volunteer and then sit half the day at the medical area. Minimum requirements are basic assessment skills, knowledge of first-aid, and CPR certification. Usually it is quiet, so if can be a good time to catch up on journal reading or CME if you wish, but with several hundred volunteers who don't normally work in construction laboring under the hot sun in a construction setting, well, anything can happen, so we like to be prepared. Please see their Web site for more information about Sandtown Habitat for Humanity and for further information. You can also download a volunteer application from their Web site. Applications must be mailed in by May 27.
If you or anyone you know is interested in participating this year, please email me directly first and let me know which days/times you prefer so I can accommodate your scheduling preferences and send you other medical-team specific information.
We appreciated your help in past and hope you will be able to share your time and talents again this year.
