Vision Statement
When I decided to pursue a career in general internal medicine, I found that the American College of Physicians’ values and mission resonated with mine. Throughout my career as primary care provider and educator, medicine has experienced dynamic changes, unfulfilled mandates, financial pressures, and unpredictable distractions. Nonetheless, the ACP has served as a touchstone for clinical excellence, scholarship, and patient-centered care.
As the practice of internal medicine evolves in the future, care will need to be quality-driven, patient-centered, transparently reported, and cost-effective. I would like to focus the resources of the ACP and the creative energies of its members to help the practicing internist meet this future mandate. Key themes for my administration will be to assist the clinician demonstrate, improve, and report the quality of his or her care. Through this effort, the Chapter will facilitate the provision of high quality care, thereby serving the patients and communities of Maryland.
