2007 Evergreen Award Winner
ACP Honors Indiana Chapter with an Evergreen Award
At this year's Internal Medicine Meeting, ACP presented fifteen Evergreen Awards to honor Chapters that created new programs that strengthened the chapter and increased member communication and involvement.
The Indiana Chapter received the 2007 Evergreen Award for "Enhancing Chapter Management Through Chapter E-mail Listservs". Here is a brief description of the chapters' effort.
Enhancing Chapter Management Through Chapter E-mail Listservs
The Indiana Chapter sought to provide leadership for members and patients through the development of chapter-based e-mail listservs, an innovative chapter management tool. The listserv is an e-mail distribution mechanism whereby a group of individuals can more readily and consistently communicate through e-mail to a central address. The Chapter has effectively implemented listservs for the chapter membership and for the local Associates Council. Their membership listserv was used for multiple functions such as surveying the membership to provide input to Governing Council decisions, distributing advocacy alerts in order to leverage connections in local campaigns and advertising local events. The listservs have served as a cost-effective mechanism to reach out to the chapter membership by reducing the use of postal mail. E-mail has been the most effective way to reach out to medical students, Associates, and young physicians. Since the inception of the listservs, 137 different chapter members have responded to various communications.
