The News in Detail:

1. The Joint Commission Request for Input on Drug Suffixes

The National Coordinating Council for Medication Error Reporting and Prevention is asking for your input regarding the use of suffixes in drug names. The intent of the survey is to assess the current use of suffixes in drug names, problems that may arise from the use of suffixes and how those situations are handled.

The survey should take approximately 5-10 minutes to complete. Please submit your answers by June 15, 2008. Your answers to the survey will remain anonymous. Please access the survey through the link below.

2. Indiana Chapter Reception at IM 2008

For Members, Associates and Medical Students attending Leadership Day and IM 2008 in Washington, D.C., this week, the Chapter extends a warm welcome! The Indiana Chapter will be hosting a reception in conjunction with the Indiana University School of Medicine Alumni Association on Friday (May 16th) at the Grand Hyatt Washington (Bulfinch/Renwick Room). We look forward to meeting all ACP members with ties to Indiana. (Hoosier friends are welcome too!)

3. Indiana Chapter Meeting -- Cardiology and GI SEP Modules for MOC

The 2008 Indiana Annual Chapter Meeting will be hosted on November 14th-15th (Fri-Sat) at the Adams Mark Hotel at the Indianapolis airport. For Members involved with board recertification, the Chapter will be hosting the Cardiology 2008 Update SEP module and the GI 2008 Update SEP module this year. Even Chapter members who aren't recertifying are welcome to participate for the educational value and for CME credits.

Please keep in mind that there will be a small $50 additional fee to participate to cover the added costs of hosting the SEP modules. This is a tremendous value compared to the several hundreds of dollars that other SEP modules sessions can cost.

4. Chapter and ACP Membership Dues

Shortly, Chapter Members, Fellows and Masters will be receiving their dues statements. You will notice a change this year. Chapter dues of have become mandatory. This won't affect the vast majority of members who already pay the annual Chapter dues of $45.

For those who haven't participated in Chapter dues in past years, the Chapter does appreciate your financial assistance because the Chapter's Governing Council and Committee members work voluntarily on behalf of the profession, our patients, and our specialty. Chapter dues are a vital means for us to continue our educational and advocacy missions, and this will be the 3rd in a row in which our dues have remained constant.

So, thank you in advance for your support. (Student and Associate members are not assessed Chapter dues.)
