Club Med

Welcome to the Internal Medicine Interest Group (IMIG) for students at the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine. We are a student-led organization that works to educate and excite medical students about the opportunities that abound in Internal Medicine. Internal Medicine physicians, or internists, are doctors for adults. Some internists provide primary care, while others sub-specialize in specific organ systems. Many participate in combined programs. Internists work in outpatient clinics and hospitals, in big cities and small towns. Internal Medicine offers physicians variety, diversity, and unlimited options for their careers.

The goal of IMIG is to provide students with opportunities to learn more about the exciting field of Internal Medicine through monthly luncheon presentations as well as hands-on experiences in the clinic. This fall's luncheons will feature distinguished internists who will speak about the day-to-day aspects of Internal Medicine, the history of the field, its subspecialty options, as well as issues in medical ethics. In the spring, we will facilitate forums in which physicians and panels of senior medical students will offer advice for excelling in medical school, scheduling clinical clerkships, and bolstering your residency admissions profile.

Throughout the year, students will have the opportunity to meet individually with general internists and subspecialists to gain an insider's perspective of the profession. The annual IMIG Chili Supper in January is one such occasion. The IMIG mentoring program is another resource through which one can find physicians who happily allow students to shadow them in the hospital. Students will also have opportunities to apply their new classroom knowledge in Grand Rounds discussions and resident-led physical findings demonstrations in the hospital.
