Vision Statement
As an FACP Governor candidate I am excited to discuss what we might call "Welcome to the Future." My goals for the future are:
* Improve patient communication (medical literacy) to reduce medical errors, inconvenience and encourage a common sense approach to management.
* Broaden the use of EMR by improving physician education and access and in turn improve documentation and reimbursement.
* Aggressively participate in Medicare reform, end the annual SGR battle and return control of the practice of medicine to physicians.
* Shape new directions to CME to include the Genetic Basis of Adult Medicine including medication selection and the growth of "personal medicine."
* Aggressively reduce fraud and abuse in the health care system.

Vision Statement
Physicians specializing in internal medicine have always faced challenges and attacks on our profession and the need to preserve and improve it. I, myself, address these issues on a daily basis in my clinical practice and my work in organized medicine. I intend to facilitate our chapter in supporting the needs of physicians involved in training, those teaching the trainees as well as those in private practice. Indeed, the educators should determine training methods which they deem necessary without interference by unqualified outsiders. We need to ensure that internists involved in all aspects of practice have resources and freedom for growth without the constraints of unqualified entities. Through the Florida chapter of ACP, we can unify our advocacy from our grassroots level to the national level and achieve an impact on legislative outcomes. Our chapter, indeed, succeeded in these efforts with the recent managed care bill victory for physicians in Tallahassee and the halt on the threatened 10.6% 2008 Medicare cuts in Washington.
I will ensure that our chapter continues to advocate on behalf of both internists in academic and in private practice as well as uphold the national ACP policy in protecting the needs and interests of internal medicine physicians.
