Medical Student Committee
Barry Wu, M.D., Chair

Membership remains an important focus of our medical student chapter. This was the sixth year we participated at the Yale School of Medicine Activities Fair held on September 3. Nearly a quarter of the first year class signed up for membership to the ACP. We are thankful for the support of our faculty representative Dr. Nikolai Podoltsev.

A few weeks later on September 20, we sponsored the 5th Annual Medical School Board Review Tournament at the Hospital of Saint Raphael. This year 7 schools from 3 different states in the northeast participated. The schools included the University of Massachusetts, New York Medical College, New York University, SUNY Downstate, SUNY Stony Brook, University of Connecticut and Yale University. The previous tournament winners included: 1999 New Jersey Medical School, 2000 New York Medical College, 2001 SUNY Downstate, and 2002 University of Connecticut. We were thrilled to have a team from Connecticut be the first to repeat as the winning school. The University of Connecticut team, consisting of Michael Baldwin, Hugh Lavery, Patrick Troy, Greg Veillette and faculty representative Dan Henry MD, FACP. Students from all the schools received a Washington Manuel and each member of the University of Connecticut team received a Harrison's Textbook.

We are delighted this year to have Ahmed Ghazi, a second year Yale medical student, representing us on the national Council of Student Members. He will serve as a liaison and facilitator between students in the New England district and the national ACP office. He is hoping to begin and internal medicine focus group at Yale. He can be reached at amg49@omega.med.yale.edu.

We hope to continue to nurture the growth of medical students in the Connecticut Chapter. If you have interest in working with our medical students, please contact me at bwu@srhs.org.
