Medical Student Committee
Barry Wu, M.D., Chair

Despite national trends, Connecticut students still are pursuing careers in internal medicine This year 19 of 94 graduating students from Yale University and 21 of 76 from the University of Connecticut are entering internal medicine residencies. This is the fifth year that we have awarded the Connecticut ACP Internal Medicine Award to a graduating senior who is entering an internal medicine residency in Connecticut. The recipient is chosen based on their academic achievement and community service. This year's winners are Charles Dela Cruz from Yale University and Nicholas Browning from the University of Connecticut. Charles will be an intern at Yale-New Haven Hospital and Nicholas at Greenwich Hospital.

We look ahead to the Fifth Annual Medical School Jeopardy Tournament to be held in September at the Hospital of Saint Raphael. In previous years, teams from New Jersey and New York were champions. We were delighted to have a team from Connecticut win for the first time last year. Previous tournament winners: 1999 New Jersey Medical School, 2000 New York Medical School, 2001 SUNY Downstate and 2002 University of Connecticut. We look forward to continuing to support this effort to enhance student participation and exposure to the ACP in the Northeast.

I am grateful for the faithful efforts of Dean Nancy Angoff (Yale), Dr. Ellen Nestler (University of Connecticut), and Rina Reyes (Yale senior medical student). If you are interested in serving on this committee, please contact me at bwu@srhs.org.
