Associates Update
Scott Wolf, D.O., Chair
Summer 2004
There is tremendous emphasis on scholarly activity in today's medicine residency training programs. But the task of actually putting together a poster, submitting a manuscript and ultimately presenting the paper at an national conference can be a daunting experience.
"How do I Turn a scientific Abstract into a Poster", Using PowerPoint Effectively, and . " I'm terrified of speaking in front of an audience", Tips on Public Speaking, were the topics of the day. The fourth annual Connecticut Chapter ACP Annual Associates Educational Conference set out to address these concerns. Taking place once again at Hartford Hospital's Education Resource Center, approximately 80 residents from training programs statewide attended what turned out to be an extremely informative session.
The day commenced with opening remarks and a heartfelt welcome from Scott Wolf, DO, MPH, FACP, Program Chair and the Associates Advisor. He then welcomed April Mann, BA, CNMT, NCT, RT(N) Manager, Non-Invasive Cardiology at Hartford Hospital. April has extensive experience in scientific publications in working with our Cardiology department. She led the attendees on a very informative and practical journey through the process of taking an abstract and developing a conference quality poster and ultimately leading to a public presentation. The dialogue was interactive and the feedback on the session was outstanding.
Lunch followed on this beautiful afternoon in May. Dr David Podell, Governor of the Connecticut ACP presented a brief update on the happenings in the ACP both locally and Nationally. Scott Wolf, Chairman for the Associates welcomed the group again and encouraged all to get involved.
The day concluded with a presentation by Steven E. Labkoff, MD, FACP, Director, Business Technology, Pfizer Pharmaceuticals. Steve gave an overview of the use of digital technology in clinical medicine. A little bit like photography 101, the group left with an some new tools to use in their 20th century black bag.
