  • Tom Appleton, PhD from University of Western Ontario was selected as a 2010 Associates Basic Research - Poster Finalist for a poster titled: Molecular Control Of Articular Cartilage Degeneration By Transforming Growth Factor Alpha.
  • Mohamed Panju, MD from the McMaster University Internal Medicine Program was selected as a 2010 Associates Basic Research - Poster Finalist for a poster titled: Case Report: A Case of Cavernous Sinus Thrombosis secondary to Mucormycosis Infection in the Oral Cavity
  • Umjeet S Jolly, MD from University of Western Ontario was selected as a 2010 Associates Basic Research - Poster Finalist for a poster titled: Intra-Thoracic Fat Distribution in Patients with Metabolic Syndrome With and Without Myocardial Infarction. Potential for a novel risk stratification tool in patients with Metabolic Syndrome.
  • Florence Morriello, MD from Queens University was selected as a 2010 Associates Basic Research - Poster Finalist for a poster titled: Sudden Bilateral Deafness: A Sign of Basilar Artery Occlusion. A case report.
  • George Farag, MD from the McMaster University Internal Medicine Program was selected as a 2010 Associates Basic Research - Poster Finalist for a poster titled: H1N1- Induced Takotsubo Cardiomyopathy: A Curious Consequence of Pandemic Influenza.
  • Oleksa G Rewa, MD from Queens University was selected as a 2010 Basic Research Basic Research - Poster Finalist for a poster titled: Medical Cause of Compartment Syndrome: A Fatal Case of Clostridium septicium.



  • Congratulations to Peter Bolli, MD, FACP, St. Catherine. He has been awarded Master of the College. He will be inducted at the convocation ceremony during the ACP Internal Medicine Meeting. To be considered for Mastership, the candidate must have made a notable contribution to medicine. This includes but is not limited to teaching, outstanding work in clinical medicine (research or practice), contributions to preventive medicine, improvements in the delivery of health care, or contributions to medical literature.


    The Laureate Award honors those Fellows of the American College of Physicians in the Washington Chapter who have demonstrated by their example and conduct an abiding commitment to excellence in medical care, education or research, and service to the community and the American College of Physicians. This award is the most prestigious honor bestowed to a chapter member at the local level.

    It is with distinct pleasure that the Ontario Chapter honors Peter G. Fernandez, MD, FACP with its 2009 Chapter Laureate Award. He is a long-standing and loyal supporters of the College, has rendered distinguished service to the chapter and the community, and has upheld the high ideals and professional standards for which the American College of Physicians is known.
