Invitation to Sacramento Leadership Day
January 13, 2011
Dear California ACP Members, Associates and Medical Students,
Our annual Cal-ACP Sacramento Leadership Day will be held March 8-9, 2011. This two-day event provides our California ACP members with the opportunity to meet with their respective legislative representatives and/or staffers on behalf of the ACP and Internal Medicine. During this advocacy event, participants will attend a presentation by our State Legislative Consultant on effective lobbying and will present a position paper to the legislators crafted by members of our Cal-ACP Health and Public Policy Committee.
I would like to extend an invitation to all California ACP physician members, associates and medical student members to attend this leadership day and have your voice heard at our State Capitol. Although Cal-ACP would like to be able to sponsor everyone interested in attending this event, due to budgetary constraints we simply cannot. If you choose to participate, you will be responsible for any expenses associated with your travel (mainly hotel accommodations for one evening, a dinner event, airfare (if you are traveling from Central or Southern California) and any other incidentals you require. The session begins on Tuesday, March 8 at approximately 3:00 p.m. and ends on Wednesday, March 9 at about 4:00 to 5:00 p.m. so there is minimal time away from your practice. Associates and Medical Students: we are sensitive that you have financial challenges and we may be able to provide you with no-cost accommodations at the home of our Northern California ACP Governor or Board member. However, this would be on a first-come, first-served basis since space is limited.
If you are interested in becoming more involved in advocacy and would like to participate in this event at your own cost, please contact Natalie Kaczur, our Executive Director, and she will provide you with all the necessary information. Because we need to schedule many appointments with legislators, please let Ms. Kaczur know by Friday, January 22, 2011 if you plan on attending. Additionally, if you do plan on attending, the sooner you book your travel, the less expensive it will be. Ms. Kaczur’s email address is CalifACP@aol.com or you may contact her by calling her at 760-747-0014.
Cal-ACP is excited about increasing State and National advocacy efforts and we encourage you to consider attending this event. By making our presence known to our legislators and informing them of critical issues surrounding Internists, only then can we begin to effect positive change for internal medicine and our patients.
Sincerely,
Maher Roman, MD, MBA, FACP
President – Cal-ACP
