Advancements in medical knowledge result from highly specialized research but a human being in ill health is an extremely complex and integrated system. If scientific medicine advances through medical specialties, clinical advance has to be obtained by way of internal medicine. The ACP performs an essential and unique role in the integrated development of the general practitioner. Strengthening the Brazilian Chapter of the ACP is fundamental to the development of Clinical Medicine in Brazil. The seeking of new members, stimulating fellowship applications from qualified members and strengthening the meetings of the Brazilian Chapter are compulsory undertakings. Currently, when the commercial relationships between Brazil and the USA are favorable, the development of a policy aimed at facilitating the adhesion of new Brazilian members, such as for example, the payment of joining fees in installments and in local currency, would be one way of increasing the Brazilian Chapter of the ACP.
